    Q

Help Patients Find a Primary Care Provider

Many clinics receive frequent calls from patients seeking a primary care provider. MOAs play a key role in referring these patients by managing internal waitlists and connecting them with available Family Physicians or Nurse Practitioners.

Educate Patients About Their Options in Richmond

MOAs can guide patients to register on Richmond’s Health Connect Registry, a provincial tool that helps unattached patients indicate they are seeking a Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner in their community.

Key Details About Using the Health Connect Registry:

    • Available to the general patient population of Richmond residents.
    • Accessible by patient self-registry on the Health Connect Registry Richmond
    • Patients must provide their Personal Health Number (PHN), B.C. home address, and contact information.
    • They can also register family members or people in their care.
    • Once registered, patients will be contacted about their language preferences and support needs.
    • Approximate wait time = six months.
    • Access is limited by the number of providers who are accepting new patients.
    • Appointments may be in-person or virtual, depending on the need.

    Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in Richmond

MOAs should promote the role of all primary care providers, including Nurse Practitioners, who provide advanced nursing care, medical examinations, prescriptions, and referrals to specialists. Since 2021, Richmond’s Primary Care Network has included a network of NPs accepting new patients through the Health Connect Registry, helping to reduce strain on the health system.

Patients may choose a Nurse Practitioner during registration, which can sometimes result in a shorter wait time.
Help patients to find a family physician or nurse practitioner

    Richmond Attachment Waitlist (RAW):

The Richmond Attachment Waitlist (RAW) is now part of the Health Connect Registry. If patients signed up for the RAW:

    • their name is on our list
    • they will not lose their place in line
    • they do not need to register again

    Updating Health Connect Registry Information

Patients must keep their Health Connect Registry contact details up to date so that they can be connected to a Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner. Updates are made by calling HealthLink BC at 8-1-1. Deaf/hard of hearing accessibility services are available by calling 7-1-1. Those who update information for family members or someone in their care will require each individual’s Personal Health Number. Currently, information on the Health Connect Registry can only be updated by phone.
